Recreational Rhythms

In the Drum Circle we create and develop the links between social skills and supportive relationships with others. The group also looks at issues such as peer pressure, identity and social responsibility.

The DRUMBEAT program has been formally evaluated demonstrating beneficial effects on a range of social measures, including classroom cooperation, teacher-student relationships, emotional response and self-esteem. It has also been successful in increasing school attendance and has been used as part of school retention polices.

The program created by Alex for Bairmount PS received the NAB Schools First Award 2009.
